We had a high school girl that had a crazy incident at the school on the island. She ran out of the building screaming and trying to choke herself. She then took off towards the lake to try and drown herself. All of her classmates went running after her. They finally over took her and got her back up to the building. Karina came and checked her blood sugar. It was a 26. That’s so dangerously low. So Karina gave the girl some sugar and then she started to act normal. As soon as her blood sugar came up Karina said all of a sudden she manifested and you could see she was possessed. So the students and Andy and some other pastors spent time praying over her. They called the parents and they actually came that evening which is really unheard of.
They arrived that evening and met with Andy and Karina. The mom is born again and the father is muslim. Apparently the mother dedicated the 3 oldest kids to the Lord and then the father broke that dedication. The 3 oldest kids are plagued with demonic attacks and all have blood sugar problems while the other siblings are healthy. After talking with them for a while the father said he wants to honor the dedication his wife made to the Lord. I guess since that meeting the girl hasn’t had any demonic attacks. The more I’m here the more I see and hear these stories about demonic activity. It’s so thick here.
We had some missionaries visiting Andrew and Karina here from Zambia. I asked them what kind of things happened over in their neck of the woods, human sacrifice, witchcraft and what not. They told me about a year ago there were 2 murders. One was a human sacrifice. Some people were angry the man had been sacrificed so they went after a successful business man in the village. They assumed since he was successful that he had to have been doing sacrifices and curses on other people. The man was just working hard in life. They killed him. It amazes me how things get warped and twisted.
Our cook came in one night and she asked for prayers because she was going home to the village about 100 yards away and said they were doing witchcraft and looking for “heads to cut”. Basically that means they are looking to cut someone’s head off for a sacrifice. It seems like every day there is something. Of course the next day, as far as we know, no one was killed.
On Wednesday at the prayer meeting I was given news that a 12 year old girl down in Kyoya village had died. The story I was told was strange indeed. The girl had been out in the bush with some of her friends the week before when they came across a cat. They just looked at it and then it turned into a human. This human told them to get firewood and they did. When they came out of the jungle the girl fell ill and eventually died. I’ve heard many rumors and different variations. Some people in the village are even saying that SHIM is practicing witchcraft and it is our fault. Andy and Karina said the girl had Tetanus. Every time something bad happens or someone dies the people here blame it on witchcraft and associate it so someone nearby who is doing well in life. So keep praying for this place.
Also be praying for the upcoming trip of my dad and the pastor from Living Hope, Ben who is basically family. Anyway, they will be here in 1 week and 6 days. Woot! They will be on the island for 7 days. Excited for them to be here and it should be an awesome week of doing ministry non-stop!
